23rd February 2007 - TG Green Pottery

The long awaited return to T G Greens pottery finally happened on a blustery and wet Friday evening. Guests and team members arrived from 7 onwards and were able to take the opportunity to visit the Factory shop, kept open especially for the evening along with the option to purchase a special one-off mould of the famous Cornish Ware mugs, if you bought one of these mugs please do keep it safe as your mug is 1 of 98 and there will never be anymore!

Our base for the night was based in a room next to the shop and had been set out with free hot drinks and food along with seating for the expected 70 members of the audience joining this very special investigation.  T G Greens were allowing the team only this one opportunity to investigate and pottery and each audience member’s observations would be crucial during the night.

The presentation began a little later than planned at around 8:00pm with new images as well as examples of camera tricks for everyone to watch out for when viewing an image. There was information on what the team would be looking out for in the footage that the audience might take during the night, every photo taken could place another piece of the TG Greens jigsaw, never have members of the public been so vital to an investigation.

After a short break Phil and Diane gave a talk to the audience before the vigils began at 10:00pm  Below is a summary of the experiences and information gathered during the vigils I followed one group during each session and gathered information to compile the experiences of other groups.

Vigil 1 – Group 2 – Malt Rooms – Leader Diane –10:00pm till 10:45pm

The moment the group settled Diane picked up on someone walking behind her, beyond the area cordoned off for safety, the area was already dark and the atmosphere was one of tension.  Another group came and we realised that we were in the wrong location!  Slightly downhearted we left the Dryers and proceeded to the Malt rooms, here the atmosphere was much calmer and far more relaxed. The group settled themselves once more and listened to the information Diane could present to them including a dream she had about the location before coming to T G Greens. In the dream she says she could she a man pacing about a room saying he did not belong here and an urn, found by workers who then decided to put it back where they found it.  Some members of the group say they saw shadows around the room.  Diane says they are workers and are content to continue working and do not wish to come forward.  When we called out a tapping was heard in one corner.  The tapping continued and odd intervals and the group decided it was rain water dripping down. We called out again and this time heard something like a stone being thrown, further calling were negative.  Diane senses one worker a large man wearing brown overalls, a boss type figure.

Summary of the other group.

Group 1 – Slip room – Leader Simon

Little activity mainly bumps and bangs.

Group 3 – Dryers – Leader Anita

Someone sensed a presence by the passageway leading to the dryers, taps were heard but a photograph only showed dust.

Group 4 – 1st Floor Fletching – Leader Steve

People felt the floor wobble; one person reported their hair being moved.  Call out was positive, the safety lights went out and turned back on in response to requests.  One point of the room caused those that stood there to feel pain in their lower back. Shuffling heard and a noticeable temperature drop felt.

Group 5 - Kiln – Leader Vince

This location was very noisy but light anomalies were seen.  Blue light seen in one corner as well as a pillar of light.  Orbs were caught on camera in this location.

Group 6 – Store Area – Leader Phil

Little activity.  Phil conducted a séance and came up with the name Jack from 2 people, 1852 from another two people and an age of 15 from 2 people and 47 by 3.  This information was not shared with another other leader.

Due to the noise of the kiln that area was shut down and a new location was given to the next vigil.

Vigil 2 – Group 4 – Cornish Shop – Leader Simon – 11:20pm till 12:05

Before the group settled someone reported being touched on the head. Simon picks up on the feeling of anxiety and another lady reports getting a headache.  There are many flashes of bright light on the girders above us and we see someone at the far end of the room who then walks away without a noticeable torchlight.  Thinking it is another group Simon goes to the leader in the Malt Rooms to ask them to keep the group together and stop taking photos in the Cornish Shop. However that group had not been taking photos or leaving their area so we no do not know what caused the flashes of light or who was seen at the end of the room.  We can not account for the other groups so we still believe the light was from photography flashes.  We hear someone walking about but it sounds close.  Again we decided that it could be from another group that are above us.  Simon picks up on a boy aged either 6 or 7, he also picks up on the year 1852.  The boy is called Ben Ainsworth he died when something fell and crushed him.  The fire alarm has gone off so the vigil ends.

Summary of the other groups

Group 1 – Malt House – Steve

Steve confirmed his group did not take any photos till the end of the vigil but unfortunately found nothing.

Group 2 – Dyers – Vince

No report

Group 3 – 1st Floor Fletching – Phil

Light anomalies found in this location, very bright blue sparks in mid air accompanied by a static click.

Group 5 – Store Room – Diane

Diane says this location was quiet, however another member of the group could see faces and a man that doesn’t like women

Group 6 – Slip House – Anita

A cat’s meow was heard; call out positive with banging in response.  When asked if they were male two knocks for yes were heard.  A black shadow was seen on the right-hand side of the room and a pink orb was caught on camera.

Update on Ben Ainsworth

Speaking to one of the stewards that provided much of the information for the previous write-up he told me of a “6inch map” created around 1860 that showed a machine called a “Jack and the Holes” that would be operated by two boys.  The machine was located in the same area as the Cornish Shop and could have been the machine that caused Ben’s tragic death.

Vigil 3 – Group 5 - Slip House – Leader Steve – 12:40am till 1:10

In this room to the right-hand side was discovered an Urn during an excavation.  The workers did not know anything about the urn and decided to put it back once they had done. This matches the description given by Diane from her dream.  Rattling of keys heard in one corner, this happened twice. One member of the group said she felt like there had been a blow to the side of the head and another on her neck.  There is a large chain in the area where the keys were heard, this is also the site of the Pink orb however it was not recaptured on camera.  Several members of the group smell of rotting fish.

Summary of the other group.

One member of the group picked up on a man.

Vigil 4 – Group 5 – Malt House – Leader Phil – 1:30am till 2:15

The group has spread themselves between two rooms.  One room has a ‘better’ feeling about it.  The same tapping noise as that in the first vigil was heard confirming that it must be rainwater.  One group member picks up on a green pulsing energy but no one member senses it and nothing else occurs.

Summary of the other groups

Group 1 – 1st Floor Fletching – Diane

No report

Group 2 – Cornish Shop – Anita

No activity reported, calm feeling.

Group 3 – Store Room – Steve

Sparks seen but nothing else

Group 4 – Slip House – Vince

During a séance one lady collapsed, I’m please to say she was not harmed and recovered enough to continue with the night.  When they restarted the Séance another lady reported a tight chest, they picked up on a gentleman between late 40’s and early 50’s, over 6 feet tall and with facial hair.  The group report they believed he was not a nice person.

Group 6 – Dryer – Simon

No Report

Vigil 5 – Group 6 – 1st Floor Fletching – Leader Diane – 2:45am till 3:30

Although it is still dark we all here a bird calling, reminding us of just how late it is. There is also the sound of a digger working outside. Call outs are negative and Diane senses nothing.  Later in the vigil footsteps are heard along with sparks. Diane senses the ‘boss’ man she sensed earlier walking back and forth near the store house.

Summary of the other groups

Group 1 – Hub – Anita

Due to the cold and lateness two groups decided to stay in the Hub with all the hot drinks.  Even here sparks were seen

Group 2 – Hub – Steve

As above.

Group 3 – Slip House - Vince

Nothing to report

Group 4 – Malt House – Phil

Nothing to report

Group 5 – Dryer - Simon

Simon picked up on a gentleman, I was not able to talk to him to get more details.

Final Vigil – Group 4 – Dryer – Leader Diane - 3:45am till 4:30

Diane ended where she had begun the night mistakenly and the presence she had sensed earlier seemed to still be present.  When we called out a very heavy breathing was heard, one lady reported feeling something pulling on her trouser leg twice.  The group also heard groaning.

Unfortunately I did not gather details for the other groups for this final vigil but I believe there was little activity.

The investigation came to a close in the very early hours and around 5am most of the tired but happy audience had left. A good night was had by all, although it had been quiet in activity some interesting points had been brought up such as the reoccurrence of the year 1852 and of the boy in the Cornish Shop and the Man in the dryer.  And with that the first and last investigation of T G Green’s Pottery came to an end with the rain still pouring just how the audience had left it when they had arrived.
